My name is Bill. I'm a relatively new Balboa motorhome owner, just since June 2020. That's right, I bought the RV high in the middle of COVID drama. I sold my house in Florida, and we are currently full time travelers. I recently left a 22 year position in the automotive business and owned many Alfa Romeo cars over the years.
The Balboa was listed on Craigslist in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. I'm in Florida. What caused me to be searching all the way over in Idaho is still a mystery. I'm not asking. :-D
Everything you can do wrong, I did it. No test drive, no inspection... just photos.
These rigs sell fast, if I wanted one, I figured I had better just pull the trigger. My step-brother arranged to have the RV delivered to his home, 30 miles west in Spokane, Washington.
After watching time fly by as a single parent, raising a daughter and working full time, suddenly, I came to the conclusion that I was getting old before my time. I inherited the love of travel from my father, I am quite convinced that he steered me to the Balboa from the great beyond. As a kid, we used to go out on snowy winter days and visit the local Dodge dealer in town. They sold Balboas through the dealer system. He always loved the huge side windows.
In early 2021, I decided that it was time to take action related to my personal life. My 18 year old daughter has traveled with me, and despite keeping quiet about it with me, her Instagram account told me that she really enjoys the trips. We both love the West. She was hesitant to agree to traveling with me, she rode back with me in the time challenged trip from Spokane in June. It wasn't a bad trip, just stressful, as I had to be back in Florida 8 days later. It was a tiring trip, but still enjoyable.
Our goal is to take the Balboa, and a 1996 Chevy G30 Beauville van (her "she shed" on wheels) to hit the road. I'm selling my house, putting a few items into storage, and searching for our next long term destination.
We covered many miles on the trip and took a brief time out in Utah to return to Florida for my little human's graduation. The next leg is to continue north to Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington State. At that point, I need to reassess the trip due to gas costs doubling sine we left.
My daughter departed the journey and decided to make northern Idaho as her home. I continued on solo, and so far I've covered nearly 50,000 miles in just the Balboa. We did approximately 10,000 miles in the '96 Chevy Van.
